This project enabled Welsh language learners to explore local stories and express their learning visually through drawing, printing techniques, illustration, culminating in a community mural. I was a guest facilitator on this Llais Y Lle project (voice of place) in Ysbyty Ifan over six months with lead artist Rhodri Owen. Artwork created during creative sessions and community days all fed into a design for this unique mural. This ‘shed mural’ is to be used as a community as an ‘honesty shop’ in the village. local ‘lifting stone’ / historic woollen mill, unique wool pattern, archive photo of sock knittersOne side of the mural was inspired by a ‘community day hosted by Rhodri Owen where people gathered to try their luck at the local ‘lifting stone’Exploring a local piece of history through etching using Tetrapak and a lasagne press, and stamp making.Between October 2023 and March 2024, I was invited as a guest creative facilitator to collaborate with Rhodri Owen on his ‘Llais Y Lle’ project inYsbyty Ifan, North Wales. As a group we explored ‘place themed’ creative workshops, investigating local history and folklore. A key aspect of this project was to encourage Welsh speaking with learners, creating a safe space to practice for those who had lost confidence. These images are from a three day monoprinting/ polyprinting workshop. Our aim was to build a series of prints which illustrated connecting scenes from a local piece of folklore. Rhodri intends to create a film from the image sequence at a later date
