Anheddau workshop: poly-printing memories of Bangor

Bangor community mural,

north wales

This design was developed through a series of workshops in the community with lots of incredible participants.

So what’s it all about? It’s a celebration of Bangor, a city in North Wales. The mural is on the gable end of the day centre Annedd Ni which hosts services and workshops for adults with support needs. One lovely memory that came up during a mono-print workshop at Annedd Ni was of a street party, this became a central theme to the mural. I also spent time painting with volunteers from Garth Pier, so those these two element were blended together down the high street surrounded by the city’s iconic buildings. Everyone loves a paned (cuppa/brew), of course! The pier became the setting for the tea party.
Slate tumbles down from the mountains, along the Crawiau (slate fences), towards the Pwll Fanog shipwreck—which once transported this precious rock. The Afon Adda river winds its way through too, from source to sea, where you’ll find sea life swimming.
Young people brought in drawings of the infamous football club, and the much-loved clocktower from the city centre sits right at the heart of it all.

Many thanks to all who helped contribute to the design process: Service users at Annedd Ni, young people in the North Wales Africa Society, Garth Pier group volunteers, and young people at Maes Ni Centre.
