A group of us set sail to Brittany in the the summer of 2020, a rare window of freedom in the height of pandemic. We wanted to pay tribute to, and experience the way onions were traded between Wales and Brittany, the “johnny Onion” story.

Lost and Found at Sea co-created public art piece. This is outcome after a series of workshops with Gwynedd Youth

Lost and found at sea

My fascination with the ocean permeates much of my work. From August to December 2020, I had the chance to honour this passion with a community focused project supported by the Arts Council of Wales.

It was a chance for me to question and highlight how access to coastal outdoor spaces, recreations and lifestyles is related to a person’s background.

Sections of the project relate to one or both of these themes:

  • Found at Sea – A portrayal of people’s dedication to and love of coastal life and its related pursuits.
  • Who owns the view?  Exploring the effect of holiday/second homes on communities over the past 50 years, and how this translates as a matter of equality for the next generation.

A group exhibition was held to showcase this project. Work from myself, and the many wonderful groups I worked with were displayed in an online event, this included films, short audio conversations and illustrations.

Thank you everyone who made it to the online exhibition.

This project was made possible by funding from the Arts Council of Wales.

DATGLYMU A DARGANFOD Y MÔR

Mae fy niddordeb mewn moroedd yn dylanwadu ar lawer o fy ngwaith. Rhwng Awst a Rhagfyr 2020, cefais y cyfle i anrhydeddu’r angerdd gyda phrosiect cymuned-ganolog a gefnogwyd gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru.

Roedd yn gyfle i mi gwestiynau ac amlygu sut mae cael mynediad at ofodau awyr agored arfordirol, adloniant, a ffordd o fyw, yn perthyn i gefndir person.

Mae rhannau o’r prosiect yn gysylltiedig ag un, neu’r ddau, o’r themâu isod:

  • Wedi’i Ddarganfod Môr – Portread o gariad ac ymroddiad pobl i fywyd arfordirol, a’r canlyniad perthynol.
  • Pwy sy’n biau’r olygfa? – Archwilio effaith gwyliau/ail gartrefi ar gymunedau dros y 50 mlynedd ddiwethaf, a’r modd mae hynny’n trosi’n fater o gydraddoldeb i’r genhedlaeth nesaf.

Cynhaliwyd arddangosfa grŵp i arddangos y prosiect. Trwy ddigwyddiad ar-lein, arddangoswyd darnau o fy ngwaith, ynghyd â gwaith yr amrywiol grwpiau hyfryd y gweithiais gyda nhw, gan gynnwys ffilmiau, sgyrsiau llafar byr, a darluniadau.

Diolch i bawb ymwelodd â’r arddangosfa ar-lein – byddaf yn uwchlwytho mwy o waith y prosiect yn fuan.

Bu’r prosiect yn bosib trwy gyllid gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru.
